about
Oh look, here it is again, ANOTHER version of Satellites...
Joking aside, I believe this song has seen the inside of all but 2 recording studios I have visited in my entire life, and I was hoping here to create a definitive version so that I never have to record it again, which I think I have succeeded in doing.
Satellites has been around in one form or another for a number of years, and this version most closely resembles the original version by my 'noise rock' band WHEN. The recording this time took us to a place known only as 'Guitar Hell'. First of all, we messed around with the placing of the capo and the tuning so if you were to play all of the many versions of Satellites back to back, I don't think any of them are in the same key...
Secondly, we spent ages trying to get a good take of the fiddly picked guitar intro. What can I say, I'm sloppy and out of practice at best. Certain parts of the guitar track required a two-man approach to the guitar with me hitting the strings in my usual caveman style while Liam covered and effectively dampened the ones I didn't need to hit to stop any stray notes leaking onto our otherwise spotless yet shaky guitar track.
I have on a memory stick an outtake from the session where I manage to play the intro from start to finish perfectly without hitting a single bum or stray note and then breaking into a fit of victorious laughter at getting it finally done. This may come out as a bonus track or something later.
